Tumblr Rough Times
Nov. 8th, 2023 07:16 pmAugh, my main socmed site Tumblr has officially been downgraded to a skeleton crew by it's parent company, Automattic :(
It isn't dead in the water yet or anything, it won't collapse overnight, but it's still not good news, and it means that it will one day collapse. Really, really heartbreaking for me, after all the years I've been there. Even when it sucked, or infuriated me, or made mind boggling decisions, it was still where I wanted to be at the end of the day.
I'm trying to get the site to let me back up my blog, but the request is taking forever, which is Stressy. I'll find some way to get all my old chat logs and private messages if it kills me, though, no way am I losing a decade of conversations with old friends.
I'll also spend at least some time tonight copying over text posts of mine, even if they're not a hit here on dreamwidth I'd like to make sure they exist somewhere.
Fingers hugely crossed I can convince even some of my friends to move over to this site so we can all still hang out, because even if it's not Tumblr and doesn't have the same features, I think it has enough in common to be a draw for users, and it's a lot less likely to go under anytime soon.
